Kedarkantha is the trek on which more Indians have seen their first Himalayan snowfall than any other — a 3,810 m summit in the Tons valley that combines real mountain drama with a trail beginners genuinely finish.

Our batches run December to April, the snow season, with microspikes and gaiters included when the trail ices up. Camps at Juda ka Talab and the Kedarkantha base ridge are the two most photographed campsites in Garhwal for good reason; summit morning delivers a 360° sweep from Swargarohini to the Gangotri range.

As Uttarakhand locals, we run this at local prices with guides from the Sankri valley itself — the same trail the big trek brands sell, without the big-brand markup.

Day-wise itinerary

1Dehradun → Sankri1,950 m

Altitude: 1,950 m

A long, beautiful drive up the Tons valley via Mussoorie, Naugaon, and Mori to Sankri village, the trek's base. Evening briefing and gear check. Guesthouse stay.

2Sankri → Juda ka Talab2,700 m

Altitude: 2,700 m

A gentle 4 km climb through pine and maple forest to the frozen pond and clearing of Juda ka Talab — one of the prettiest campsites in Garhwal. First night in tents.

3Juda ka Talab → Kedarkantha base3,250 m

Altitude: 3,250 m

Short, steady 4 km ascent to the open ridgeline campsite at Kedarkantha base, with the summit pyramid above and Swargarohini across the valley. Early dinner and an alpine bedtime.

4Summit day (3,810 m) → descend to Sankri3,810 m

Altitude: 3,810 m

Pre-dawn push to the summit for sunrise over Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, Black Peak, and Gangotri ranges — then the long, happy descent all the way back to Sankri. Guesthouse stay.

5Sankri → Dehradun — trek concludes640 m

Altitude: 640 m

Morning drive back down the Tons valley, reaching Dehradun by evening.
